Genesis Alliance- Sixto Rivera

In 2007, Genesis Alliance was formed through a partnership of Highland Oaks Church of Christ and High Pointe to train Spanish-speaking preachers to plant Latino churches in the DFW metroplex. It has since evolved to an organization “Connecting Cultures Through Christ” in many parts of the world by training Christians to make disciples and form communities of baptized believers. Genesis Alliance is now providing church-planting training throughout the U.S. and in several foreign countries, and its goal of planting hundreds of churches is within reach. Executive Director Sixto Rivera (a former High Pointe staff minister) has been charged to direct High Pointe’s mission methodology in El Salvador.

holdinggrain.jpg“The single most effective evangelistic methodology under heaven is planting new churches.”  --Peter Wagner

Research studies confirm Peter Wagner's assertion that church planting is an effective evangelistic method.

  • Churches under 3 years of age win an average of 10 people/year for every 100 members
  • Churches 3-15 years of age win an average of 5/year for every 100 members
  • Churches over 15 years win an average of 3/year for every 100 members

As a church ages, it is easy for the church to rely on out dated methods, or it becomes inward focused. Church planting begins with a clear purpose of reaching lost people, and all of the efforts and resources are focused around this goal. There are also no entrenched ways of thinking and no structural hurdles to overcome, so needed changes are made easily. While we have often recognized the need for starting new churches overseas, the need for church planting in the United States is great. Consider these numbers:

genesis.jpg

  • 1900 - 28 churches for every 10,000 Americans
  • 2004 – 11 churches for every 10,000 Americans
  • Number of unchurched in US has doubled from 1991 to 2004
  • The United States is the fifth largest mission field in the world
  • Weekly church attendance is 18-23% in the US and plummeting

Local Hispanic Evangelism - Wilmer Rivera

We are honored and humbled that God has brought us Wilmer Rivera to begin a ministry in the McKinney community to reach our Latino neighbors and friends.  The mission is to become a church that reflects the community around it (especially the Latino one). McKinney Hispanic demographic is 20% of our population and this provides an opportunity to expand the Kingdom.  We desire to teach and make disciples among the Latino Community and to form an effective program to fully integrate them into High Pointe.  As we work with Latinos, we see a purity and openness to the Gospel.  They are unhindered by most philosophical ideologies and there are almost no barriers to speaking with them about the Gospel.  They have open hearts.  Wilmer will be joining the staff February 2016 to serve as our Outreach Minister with the primary focus and time being with the Hispanic community.
